GFRP reinforcement in marine construction
Seawalls are massive shore-parallel structures built to provide protection against storm surge flooding and upland erosion. Marine structures such as seawalls, water breaks, artificial reefs, floating marine docks, and buildings near water systems are very sensitive to chlorides or sea salt which can easily damage concrete structures reinforced with steel rebar. Therefore, engineers prefer to use corrosion-free and superior-in-strength glass fibre rebar which is completely impervious to corrosion. BlackBar Glass Fibre rebar is a superior quality product designed to be used in marine applications. Completely protected against chloride ions, our GFRP reinforcement is stronger than steel.
Advantages of BlackBar GFRP rebar:
- 100% made in Australia
- High tensile strength, shear and bond strength.
- Non corrosive
- More durable than conventional reinforcement
- Lighter than steel, easier to transport and handle.
- Labor saving and faster placement.
Applications of Black Bar GFRP rebar:
- Sea Walls, Wharfs & Dry Docks
- Coastal Construction exposed to Salt Spray
- Desalinization Intakes
- Port Aprons
- Coastal pathways
- Marine precast
- Reef restoration
BlackBar™ is a Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rebar that extends the life of concrete projects such as slabs, foundations, precast products, marine and general construction. GFRP is 2x stronger and 4x lighter than traditional steel rebar. A bundle of 10mm BlackBar™ GFRP rebar – 120 lm- only weighs 18kg and is easily carried by one person. GFRP can be walked on and driven over by vehicles.
BlackBar™ is cheaper than steel and will not corrode in high chloride applications which keeps the budget on track while resulting in a concrete that outlasts traditional steel-reinforced.
BlackBar™ Glass Fibre Rebar is available in 6-24mm diameters, manufactured to required size up to 12m
Beyond Materials Group PTY LTD is a growing Australian manufacturer of GFRP rebar and can meet your specification and quality requirements. From our factory in Loganholme, Queensland we manufacture and ship our GFRP products Australia wide.
Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth.
-Foundations and walls
-2 times stronger than steel
-4 times lighter than steel
-Fibreglass rebar is naturally resistant to alkali, rust and acids.
-Moisture penetration from concrete does not spall.
-GFRP rebar has the same thermal coefficient expansion as concrete.
-Smaller rods allow for more critical spacing and designs.
-GFRP rebar is easily cut to length with regular tools.
